Screentime                                   >2024<

The Screentime series explores the relationship between painting and history in the context of the post-historical present, characterised by an abundance of electronic images. In its cultural function, painting is closely linked to the development of visual-historical consciousness, serving to create a culture realised through conscious perception. As a cultural-historical achievement, art exemplifies the realisation of such a consciousness, serving above all to empower the modern human subject. However, the postmodern aesthetics of screens and digital media stand in stark contrast to this. Fragmentation, the assembly of decontextualised content, and programmed experience create a different subject that perceives itself as less autonomous and self-determined. The Screentime series attempts to give contradictory form to this inherent conflict of the contemporary subject.
